Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in ECE 3613 or instructor’s permission

 

Textbook: Introduction to Radar Systems, Skolnik, McGraw Hill

Supplemental: Radar Systems Analysis and Design Using Matlab, Mahafza, CRC Press

 

Goals: The course introduces various radar system designs and their applications. Radar system architecture and the functionalities and limitations of subsystems are discussed. Theories of radar detection and estimation in the noisy and clutter environment are examined. Existing technologies and advanced techniques to improve radar performance are provided.

  4. MTI and Pulse Doppler Radar (Chapter 3)
  5. Detection of Signals in Noise (Chapter 5)
  6. Information from Radar Signals (Chapter 6)
  7. Tracking Radar and Advanced Topics (Chapter 4)

 

Grading Policy:

  • Homework 10%
  • Projects 40%
  • Midterm exam 15%
  • Final project 15%
  • Final exam 20%

 

Course Policies:

 

  • All the homework and project reports are due at the beginning of the class on the specified date. No late homework or reports will be accepted, so don’t wait until the last minute. Take advantage of the office hours!
  • Computer programming may be required in the homework and projects. You can choose the computer language you are familiar with but MATLAB is recommended. A matlab TA will be available and his/her office hours will be announced when the information becomes

·     Midterm projects will be individual project but the final project is a team project. Specification will be given during the semester. Final project includes a written report and an oral presentation for each group. The report (at least 10 pages, single space excluding figures) is due on December 8, 2017. The oral presentation is limited to 30 minutes and is tentatively scheduled the first week of December.

  • One midterm exam will be given approximately in the middle of the semester (approximately early-October). The final exam will be given at the time assigned by the University.  All exams are open
  • Make-up tests are given only if you have legitimate reason (such as medical or accidental). It is your responsibility to make other arrangements before the exam. Otherwise, the missed test cannot be retaken. Please note that travel arrangements, social or sporting events are not acceptable reasons for missing a
