<title>Day 6</title>
<font size=+1>Today we left Flagg Ranch campground around 6:30 a.m. after being rudely awoken by a renegade thunderstorm - you should've seen that mad scramble at 5:30 to get the tent down and in the car before the heavy rain hit...but we did it! &nbsp We drove into Grand Teton NP (still in the rain, that's why the pic didnt turn out well) and hiked up "Death Canyon" trail for a few hours. &nbsp Then it was onward to Salt Lake City. &nbsp We arrived around 6:30 p.m. in SLC and stayed the night with Andy's friend and old roommate Mike. &nbsp Here are our pics from this sixth day of our trip.<p>

    <TD>Oops ... I deleted this image by accident. &nbsp I'll see if I can recover it - it might be on Dave Yorty's comp. in SLC.</TD>

    <TD>We left Flagg Ranch in a hurry this a.m. because of a thunderstorm ... we awoke around 5:30 a.m. and had the tent taken down and packed up, and our luggage in the car, by 5:50! &nbsp I apologize for the poor quality of this picture; it was raining (notice the spots on my camera lens) and the lighting was terrible (remember it's about 6:30 a.m. now).</TD>

    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0134.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Another attempt to improve the lighting, but to no avail.</TD>

    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0135.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Aren't the Tetons gorgeous? &nbsp In the foreground is Jenny Lake, and in the back ground are the northern mountains of the Grand Teton range. &nbsp They are as jagged and snow-covered as I expected, perhaps more.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0136.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>A closer view of one of the Grand Teton mountains.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0137.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>More mountains ... one of these (I think the one on the left) is the tallest peak in the range ... "Grand Teton" itself. &nbsp Notice the glacier about 1/3 of the way into the pic from the left.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0138.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>A view of the flat part of "Death Canyon" trail that Andy and I hiked. &nbsp After the morning rain, the sun broke through and we had a pleasantly cool morning for our hike.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0139.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>A view of Phelps Lake and the "Jackson Hole" to the south. &nbsp This was mid-way along our hike ... we had to climb to this overlook, descend to the intersection with the "valley trail", and then climb again back into the mountain.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0140.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Here's Andy at the most-upward point of our hike. &nbsp We only had 3 hrs to hike, so we stopped here beside a waterfall and ate, drank, and rested. &nbsp The trail continued upward but we didnt'.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0141.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Another view of Phelps lake.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0142.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>More of the lake.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0143.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Whew ... all done! nbsp This hike was intense ... I don't look so exhausted, but I'm completely covered in sweat and the bugs are attacking while this pic is being taken.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0145.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>If you look closely at the map, we started our hike near the "red lettering" just to the right of Phelps lake. &nbsp We hiked to the intersection of trails just to the north of the lake, and then continued along and to the west ... not quite reaching the next intersection and that deadly-looking series of switchbacks. &nbsp The section of trail that goes NW from the lake doesn't look like it's a climb, but trust me, we went up until we stopped.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0146.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>Yea! &nbsp A new state for Brad!  &nbsp Let's see ... I believe it's # 8.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0147.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>This is the welcome to Utah sign ... new state # 9 for Brad. &nbsp Andy was so excited and ready to get to Salt Lake City to visit with friends that I barely had enough time to shoot this poor-quality image.</TD>
    </TR>

<TR>
    <TD><center><img src="DSCN0150.jpg"></center></TD>
    <TD>We made it to Salt Lake City! &nbsp This is a view of the city from one of the overlook points ... for the poor lighting, I'm impressed with the picture quality.</TD>
    </TR>
