My Storm Chases
This page is a listing of my brief storm chasing career so far. I
know this is a small list as of now, but this was my first year of
actually storm chasing. I also didn't keep any good records of my first
few chases in Colorado this summer, however, there were 7 relatively
unsuccessful chases there. Some of the pictures from those
early chases are on the other photos page though. This list will be
growing a lot in the near future hopefully. I also plan to keep a
decent log of all my excusions this summer.
I am working on getting these all on line currently.
A star(*) next to the date means there are pictures from this chase.
many of these link to my general picture page.
*June 21,1998 My first
tornado,
what more can I say? There is a picture of it, but it isn't good
quality. I never thought about keeping a log before this day.
- October 1, 1998 Just a hunt for some
lightning photos.
- *October 4, 1998 What a day for my
first Oklahoma chase. I have a bunch of nice photos of the Dover tornado
and the storm structure.
- March 8, 1999 My worst bust yet. 687
miles for pizza, and not even good service.
- April 2, 1999 A very good chase in
southwestern Oklahoma.
- April 13, 1999 A bad day where we
ended up in all the right places 20 minutes too late.
- April 22, 1999 A great chase in the
entire NE quadrent of Oklahoma.
- April 23, 1999 A longshot to start
with.
- April 25, 1999 A drive
Southwest with no real results.
- May 2, 1999 Another drive
Southwest with no results.
- ***May 3, 1999 The largest tornado
outbreak in Oklahoma history. I saw 3 tornadoes and a set of flashing
blue and red lights in my rearview mirror. I do have some excellent
pictures of the tornadoes.
- *May 22, 1999 My only chase while I
was home in Colorado this year. I was on the best storms in the state,
but they didn't quite produce a tornado. There are a couple nice
pictures from this day though.
- *June 18, 1999 We were bored, and
there were storm northwest, way northwest. We did see a very nice storm
with awesome lightning in Rogers Mills county, OK. There are a couple
pics from that day here.
- June 27, 1999 A rare summer day
that looked good. Storms went up near Wichita, but didn't quite hold
together long enough.
- *June 29, 1999 Another summer day,
but a more productive one. We followed a beast of a storm from near Guymon
all the way to I-40. It finally did hose for us near Morse, TX.
- June 30, 1999 OK, we knew we were
pushing our luck hoping for 2 days in a row in June in the Southern
Plains. Nice storms in Kansas though, just farther than we were willing
to go.
- September 7, 1999 A spontaneous
lightning chase that was a lot of fun.
- September 10, 1999 This was a
slight risk day in which we ended up on a storm for most of 4 hours. No
tornadoes, but 4 gustnadoes. A lot of fun being in weather again.
- October 29, 1999 A squall line
formed in NW Oklahoma, and we had been weather starved since September
10th, so we went and got a closer look.
- December 2, 1999 A squall line formed, and I headed out looking for lightning,
and we ended up in an area with a tornado warning, but never really saw anything.
- February 17, 2000 Moderate risk over all of Oklahoma, and not a single storm.
Everyone missed this forecast badly.
- February 24, 2000 Another Moderate
Risk with very few storms, none of which I saw.
- March 2, 2000 Yet another Thursday
Moderate risk and PDS. There were storms during the day this time, but
no tornadoes.
- March 7, 2000 A Tuesday with a
moderade risk for a change. Really it was a squall line day, but we went
to check it out regardless.
- March 15, 2000 Spring break chase
with a couple nice storms near Elk City.
- March 26, 2000
