An Unofficial Tim Dwight "Biography"

Like I said earlier, this is actually more of a career summary than a biography. For those of you who may have found this page, but have no idea who Tim Dwight is, he is currently a wide receiver/kick returner for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. He has been playing football since at least the seventh grade, but started to become prominent during his Junior year at City High School in Iowa City, Iowa. As a running back, he shattered state records his Senior year, and led a great Little Hawk team to its first state championship ever. As Dwight graduated, the question on everyone's mind was, where would he play college football?

Tim could have gone to just about any college in the country, they were falling all over themselves to recruit him. However, he decided to attend the University of Iowa in his hometown, and play for the Hawkeyes. Tim loves the state of Iowa and the Hawkeye fans, and I think that played a big part in his decision. Regardless, he started as a halfback at Iowa, but his small size (5'8") limited his success. During his first two years, Dwight tried a lot of different positions, and was good at all of them, but he couldn't really seem to find his niche. However, he ran back kickoffs and punts, and quickly became a very good kick returner.

At the beginning of his Junior year, Tim began to play extensively at the wide receiver position. I must admit that I was skeptical at first, I mean, a 5'8" wide receiver usually has a hard time getting the job done. However, Tim isn't your average athlete, this guy has as big a heart as I've ever seen. His determination, speed, and hard work soon made him a force to reckon with, and many a Big Ten defender had to learn the hard way. Dwight not only became an excellent receiver that year, but his kick return skills also improved rapidly. He led the nation in yards per return, and also scored on punt returns against Penn State and Ohio state. Tim rapidly became the MVP of the Hawkeyes, you could always count on him to make the big clutch play.

In his Senior year, Dwight continued his dominance, but the Hawkeyes' opponents were more leery. Still, even playing in double and triple coverage, Tim managed to have another excellent year as a receiver. And, despite the fact that teams kicked away from him all year (Northwestern had the quarterback punt on third down, so Dwight wouldn't even be on the field), Dwight again led the nation in yards per return, and this time ran three punts back for scores. At the end of his college career, Dwight had over 2000yds receiving and over 1000yds each on kickoff and punt returns. He holds the all-time Iowa record for most career receiving yards, and holds the all-time Big Ten record for most punts returned for touchdowns. Unfortunately, four years went by far too quickly, and Iowa fans were sad to see Tim leave. However, we were all excited to see what he would do in the NFL.

Tim was drafted in the fourth round (a steal by anyone's standards) by the Atlanta Falcons, instantly assuring the Falcons a large fan base in the midwest. It quickly became clear that he would be returning a lot of kicks, but nobody was sure how much playing time he would get in the offense. Well, the NFL season is well underway, and Dwight is having a sensational rookie year. In the first week, at Carolina, he broke through coverage and outran two defenders for an easy 44-yard touchdown reception. In the fifth week, at home against Carolina, he returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. He also completed a 22-yard pass to the quarterback on a fake reverse. In addition to these big plays, Tim has a very good kickoff return average and has run back several punts. He has also seen a lot of action at wide receiver, and has even been put in a few times at halfback!

I guess that pretty much brings us up to date, but this page will change often as I remember things and as Tim continues his dazzling performances.
