5-18-97 Pictures
I took the following pictures on this date as my dad and I chased (and were chased by) the biggest hailstorm to hit our area in at least thirty years.
-Shot of the mesocyclone over Iowa
City from about 5 miles away.
-AMAZING shot of a wall cloud taken from about
3/4 mi away. Note the rotation in the cloud base.
I think this is my
favorite picture I've ever taken. CLICK ON PICTURE FOR THE BIG VERSION.
-Second shot of the wall cloud, taken about two
minutes later.
-An impressive gust front. Seen about five
minutes after
the wall cloud and over roughly the same area.
-I picked up this hail off of our lawn about
1.5 hours after it fell!
I found one stone that was still 2.5 inches
in diameter.
