-A funnel (near center) descends from a wall
cloud over Lindsay, but dissipates after a few minutes. This picture was
taken by David Demko, facing
West.
-The rotation soon reintensifies, as shown
in this great shot of a wall cloud (in the background). This is taken
from a few miles South of Lindsay, facing Northwest. This picture was
also taken by David Demko.
-This is the same storm cell seen about 15-20
minutes later and from about 5 miles away (on I-35), looking West.
Note the rain-free lowered cloud base to the left of the rain shaft.
-Another shot from a few
moments later.
-The storm from much closer up. This picture
was taken on the western edge of Pauls Valley, facing West. This is about
5-10 minutes after the last picture and 5 miles further south. The
cloud base is part of the rain-free base seen in the previous two
pictures. Note the edge of the rain shaft on the right. The base
extended overhead and to the right (North), with a large rain shaft to
the Northwest.
-Funky cloud on the back side of the
storm. This picture was taken facing Southwest and about 5 minutes after
the last picture. I don't believe the cloud to be tornadic due to its
location within the storm. The large building just to the right of
center is the Pauls Valley Wal-Mart (woohoo!). The darkness on the right
edge of the horizon is the western edge of the main rain/hail shaft of the
storm.
-The initial stages of a funnel cloud over the
east side of Pauls Valley. This picture was taken about 5 minutes after
the previous one. The funnel was about 1/4 mile away and to the
northeast at this time. The cloud was rotating, with the center of rotation
in the right half, where it's sort of clear. The rain/hail shaft was
directly to the left of the funnel and extended from the Northeast to the
Northwest. About 30 seconds after this picture was taken, we were hit with
one inch diameter hail. There was a report of a tornado touching down about
15 minutes after this picture was taken.
-Casey enjoys the storm from a "safe"
distance (the lab tests come back next week). This was taken about 15
minutes after the tornado reportedly touched down. Witnesses say Casey
yelled "I'm the king of the world!" at the top of his lungs. We don't
believe them, though.
