113 JD - Note These files run 09Z JD to 09Z JD+1 Started: Wed Apr 23 19:45:00 GMT 2003 @ Operations Keywords: @ Hail @ AP @ Heavy Rain Notes: % 1945 Start ops % 2029 big differences in the Precip algs (see snapshots).  Near 270/105 nm, there are differences of around 1 inchbetween the Kdp algs and Z_Zdr. % 2100 20-21Z HCA appears to be working well  - hail areas agree with base data. % 2230 several areas of multi-cellular storms; mostly just heavy rain, maybe some small hail; nothing particularly severe. % 2237 3hr QPE to the NW (~280/160 km), Z-based algs considerably higher than Kdp (due to hail).  Just west (~250/60 km), Kdp algs higherthan Z alg. % 2333 3.5 degrees, 306/64nm has 50 dBZ, Zdr ~0, and HCA = HR. % 0009 deepest hail signature so far today; 199/50nm, up to 25kft. % 0033 high Z (59 dBZ) at 0.5 degrees at 186/37nm along with high Zdr (3 dB); HCA = HR.  Storm has previously been showing hail.  ToldNWS about the change. % 0050 storm just south of KOUN (170/30nm) has large hail areas on HCA above 0.5 degrees, but little or no hail at 0.0 & 0.5 degrees (Zdr~2-3 dB). % 0056 storm just south of KOUN now has hail at 0.0 degrees (Zdr still ~2 dB but rhoHV ~0.95). % 0057 strong hail signature at 164/29nm, 1.5 degrees: Z=63dbZ, Zdr=0.6, rhoHV=0.96 % 0117 2.5 degrees, 136/27nm: rhoHV "hole". % 0142 strong hail signature at 198/58nm, 0.5 degrees: Z=65dBZ, Zdr= 0 dB, rhoHV=0.95 % 0154 very nice hail signature at 0.0 degrees at 192/51nm, Zdr "hole". % 0236 rhoHV "hole" at 142/44nm, 2.5 degrees: rhoHV=0.78; Z=61dBZ, Zdr= -0.3. % 0242 hail signature at 135/44nm at 1.5 degrees: Zdr= -1.4 dB, Z=65dBZ. % 0247 hail signature at 133/48nm at 0.5 degrees: Zdr= -0.9 dB, Z=65dBZ, rhoHV= 0.91. % 0253 AP labeled as hail by HCA: 171/46nm at 0.0 & 0.5 degrees. % 0300 the bow echo has been steadly decreasing in intensity as it moves through eastern OK. % 0415 End ops
