MARK HERNDON'S HOMEPAGE

My name is Mark, and this page was created under duress from Matt. I am Matt's semi-regular storm chase partner...at least as much as work and family permit. I am a petroleum geologist, and am involved in drilling oil and gas wells. I'm the guy who says "Please drill HERE."

My latest catch:

I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in 1986. I'm married with a four-year old son, Sam. I enjoy learning about weather because it has many similarities to ....such as being able to grasp a four dimensional data set. Over the years, I have been able to enjoy several interesting sports. I started rock climbing when I was 15 years old, and was more or less a fanatic for the next ten years. I climbed a lot in Yosemite (including three routes on El Capitan , Chamonix, France and many other places in the U.S. and Mexico. I was also an experienced skydiver and BASE jumper (which more or less grew out of my Yosemite days). I am a Tandem Jumpmaster with almost 1300 skydives and 97 BASE jumps from various sites. Alas, even Peter Pan had to leave Never Never Land, and I rarely even jump from an airplane anymore. For those who are interested, storm chasing is neither "extreme" nor a "sport" in my opinion, but rather a science which can be experienced by amateurs, as in astronomy or even bird watching. For those who expect cheap thrills.....well the thrills sure don't come cheap. I spent 6 weeks in 1995 working on the set of Twister, which was an interesting experience that I don't care to repeat...another venture carried out under the duress of Matt.
