1) Use the 500 mb height/vorticity analysis to highlight (shade)
the areas of anticyclonic vorticity advection (blue) and cyclonic
vorticty advection (red)
2) Use the 250 mb analysis to highlight (shade) the areas of
convergence aloft (blue) and divergence aloft (red)

Many
people colored areas of diffluence and confluence as those of divergence and
convergence, which is true only if the speed convergence/divergence agrees with the
diffluence/confluence. The image below illustrates conv/div when only considering the flow (confluence & diffluence)
