So the first real chase day of the season was quite the chase. Not only was this the first chase of the season, but it was my first
real chase as well thanks to Rachael and Bob for dragging me along. Not only did we get to see a tornado, but we got to see several
other funnel clouds as well. On top of the awesome weather, we stumbled upon a huge fire in Kingfisher, OK. Some crazy redneck asked
us if we were with Channel 9. After we informed him that we were not affiliated with them, he proceded to tell us that the building
that was on fire was a theatre that had been around for about 500 years. Apparently Native Americans used to spend time at the movies
when they weren't hunting buffalo. Other notable events on the trip include, but are not limited to: Red Dirt Roading and squishing
hundreds of frogs because they were all over the road (we didn't mean to, really). Hopefully I can get some pics from people we were
with. Next important purchase on the list is a digital camera, which is closely followed by a vehicle that is appropriate for storm
chasing (I think I'd look nice in a 2 door Tahoe). And the list goes on...
Turns out 8 fire depeartments responded to that fire in
Kingfisher,
so I guess that makes it an eight alarm fire. Pretty intense.

Second chase of season/ever was kind of a bust. No tornados at least. But it's ok. It's always fun driving around with friends.
Today I rode along with Jake and Mary. Things we did see today include: a pretty cool rainbow, a few wall clouds, one crazy little
updraft, and a whole lot of palious clouds (or I think that's what they're called, but I don't know how to spell it). We also saw quite
a bit of hail, and only managed to get hit by a little bit. The hail we ran into was only pea size, so it wasn't anything too bad. I
did see some crazy pictures on the news today of all the hail they got up in Oklahoma City. There were some places where the hail was
so deep that cars got stuck in it kinda like snow, and some of it had to be plowed. I also heard that it did cause a few cars to slide
off the road. Pretty crazy stuff. I'm just glad to say that my car made it through the day unscathed. Until next time...(hopefully
tomorrow).

So today I went chasing with my friend, Brian, from home. We went out not necessarily because we were expecing to see
great things, but because we both really had nothing better to do and we hoped we'd get lucky. The goal was to get to
Witchita Falls and then call Mary, my hail-o-phobic nowcaster for the day. Well, we never made it to Witchita Falls
because we got sidetracked by a little developing storm that was forming where there had been some clearing so I was
hoping that there would be sufficient lifting. I was wrong, died out real quick. But then after a phone call from
Mary we decided to go down towards Throckmorton County. Well, I don't think we ever did make it all the way before
being distracted once again. This time it was by the cold front. We could see it pushing towards us, and it was
really well defined in the clouds. It looked really cool, so we stopped for a photo op. Hopefully, the pictures will turn
out good. After the pictures, all we did from then on was get into some heavy rain and a little hail, so we decided it
was time to head home.
