ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE - The Department of Physics and Materials Science of the City University of Hong Kong is inviting applications for the post of assistant professor in the field of atmospheric science to be filled as soon as possible after 1 July 1998, pending availability of funding.

Preference will be given to candidates with research interests that fit into the current emphases of the Department in atmospheric science: tropical meteorology, climate prediction and air pollution studies (including boundary-layer meteorology). Some of the research work is in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Science and Technology of the University. The Centre has a ground-based LIDAR system which is currently used to study the aerosol distribution and the characteristics of the planetary boundary layer. Future plans include measurements of trace gas concentrations.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. with a good record of publications in internationally-refereed journals. Appointment will first be made on a two-year contract basis and transfer to the superannuable (tenured) scheme may be possible afterwards. Salary range: HK$40,755-$68,080 per month (1US$ is approximately HK$7.8) depending on experience.
