European Meteorological Society is Established

On 14 September 1999, after five years of effort in the making, the European Meteorological Society (EMS) was founded by some 20 Meteorological Societies from all across Europe. Following the EMS Constitution, which reads "the seat of the Society shall be the seat of the Secretariat of the Society", the current office of EMS is located at Free University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany. Current President is Dr. Rene Morin (France) and Executive Secretary is Dr. Arne Spekat (Germany). More information can be found in a report written by Dr. Arne Spekat in this issue.
