Alberta Clippers and La Nina
During La Nina
years you are likely to encounter more Alberta Clipper
systems than usual.
The reason for this is because the polar front often dives south
across the Great Lakes
during a La Nina year. The polar jet stream
forms in response to the polar front, so it dives south as well. The
polar jet stream helps to steer such storms as Alberta Clippers.
So with the onset of La Nina the jet stream often sets up over the
Great Lakes bringing more Alberta Clipper systems to the area.
