The Chase: Another late June chase
opportunity, this one with even more promise than 2 days ago. We left at
about 10Am on highway 3 NW. We got under some cirrus near Woodward, OK,
which ended up being the anvil of the storm we later chased. We
intercepted out storm just S of Guymon, OK. We headed south to Gruver,
TX and thento Morse, TX. The storm was going due south at about 10-15
mph the whole time. It kept going through a cycle of getting HPish, then
developing a new rotation, which was in a rain free area. And just as
that started to get its act together, the rotation became rain-wrapped.
his occured several times, when finally near Morse we got a tornado.
There are picture on my June 29th picture
page. From here we continued south,. as the storm turned a bit more
easterly. This took it over the Canadian River, which caused road
problems. We went through Borger, TX and east on 152 towards Pampa, TX.
By this time the sut was close to setting. I got a couple last pictures
of the meso, and we headed to Shamrock, TX for dinner. We then watched
the lightning form our storm, and the other supercell to the south on the
way home. This was a nice chase, following the same cell for 5-6 hours
from Guymon to I-40.
