The Chase: Well we only had so much
good luck for late June in the southern plains. We headed NW on highway
3 again. We stopped in Woodward for a radar check, and saw storms up
NNW, SE of Goodland, KS, which was too far away to go. We decided to
hear north to Sitka, KS, and hope the cells would hold together since
thewy were moving fairly quickly. We were under a tornado watch, and saw
an anvil. We followed under the anvil, and only found it had lost its
updraft. Quickly we realized this wasn;t going to work out, so we
returned home to Norman. We stopped at a fireworks stand just SE of
Woodward since Rachel and April had never been to one before. The
ramaining highlight of the chase was a comment by April. In reference to
a freshman who had a crush on her when she was a junior or senior in high
school, "I figured he thought the world of me, so I couldn't say no." Oh
my, Tim just about drove off the road laughing so hard. I had tears
pouring down my face for a while after that one. Great comic relief
after a long busted chase.
