Summary: This was a chance to see
weather for the first time since September 10th, se we went up into a
severe thnderstorm near Okeene, Oklahoma
The Chase: We left Norman at 4:20PM to
go see a squall line that was forming in NW Oklahoma. We ended up going
west on I-40 to the second Geary/Watonga exit. Then we went north to
Watonga, east towards Dover, and then north again. We stopped about 3
miles west of Hennessey to watch the storm come towards us. We got
outflowed by it, and it had formed a nice shelf cloud by this point.
Then we got dinner in Watonga and headed home. I got back to my
apartment at 9:47PM. The winds near Hennessey were about 20 knots with
gusts near 30 knots. When that line hit Norman at near midnight there were
gusts of about 40-50 knots, or from 45-60 mph. There also were some
gusts over 80 mph causing damage about 4 miles noth of my apartment.
