METR2413 - Lab #3 - January 30, 2004 Due February 6, 2004

Using the available infrared satellite images, answer the following questions

1. Where are the regions of low clouds, mid-level clouds and high clouds? How can you tell?

2. In Southeast Oklahoma and Northeast Texas, there is a region which on the IR image appears to have four different shades or colors, all fairly close to each other. Using only the information available on this IR image, briefly describe the surface weather and any vertical temperature changes at the following locations (i.e. what temperature or temperature range is the imager reading for each region and what does that mean?):
  1. Oklahoma City, OK (region 1)
  2. Fort Smith, AR (region 2)
  3. Dallas, TX (region 3)
  4. Tyler, TX (region 4)
  5. Houston, TX (region 5)

3. In what ways would a visible satellite image from the same time be useful?

4. In what ways would a water vapor satellite image from the same time be useful?

Images are from the same time.
