Steven M. Cavallo

Prof. Steven Cavallo is an assistant professor in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. He heads the Arctic and Antarctic Research Group and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including "Synoptic Meteorology" and "Fundamentals of Atmospheric Science."

Prof. Cavallo received a B.S. in Meteorology from Florida State University in 2003, M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington in 2006, and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington in 2009 under the advisement of Dr. Greg Hakim. He then went to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) where he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Polar Regions Research from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Polar Programs in what is now the Arctic Natural Sciences program. While at NCAR, he worked under the advisement of Dr. Chris Snyder and Dr. Chris Davis in the NCAR Earth System Laboratory Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) division.

Prof. Cavallo's research interests lie primarily in the study of vortex dynamics, particularly when applied to high latitude proccesses on weather and climate scales.
