May 7 – Daily Update

INSTRUMENT STATUS: The MWR and AERI appear to be operating as they should. The DL is still operating, but quicklooks are not generating for the lidar fields. The DL scans have not been tweaked any further. I checked in on it just now and the scan cycle started at 8:45 pm… not sure if this was coincidence or the timing is better than initially though. I will check on this tomorrow.

WEATHER INFO: Today was warm and mostly cloud free. Tomorrow is expected to be warmer and dry with light winds. Tuesday will be clear and a little cooler. A cold front approaches Tuesday night. Rain chances begin Tuesday night, maximize on Wednesday with chances of thunderstorms, then decrease but still remain on Thursday. The temperatures drop behind the front and stay low on Wednesday and Thursday.

PREVIOUS DAY OPS: Not much to report here… many teams (ours included) are still spinning up and getting systems online. New towers are going up. Josh arrived today!

SITE PHOTOS: None today

NEXT DAY OPS: Tonight the tethered balloon will be flown at the George site by CU group with possible extra balloon release there by ND group. Tomorrow, Jose Palma’s students visit the valley. We will be on site to demonstrate our systems. We also will check on lidar scan timing again, move the internet power source to UPS, and work on finding a solution to UPS alerts for power outages. We will also make a backup on the external HD and pull the first sets of spectral data from the lidar computer.
