May 9 – Daily Update

INSTRUMENT STATUS: All the instruments are working! The DL scanning strategy was tweaked so that they are now closer to the 15 minute frequency keeping them on the hour. Small datagap from editing the scans. At the site today, we got Cyberpower monitoring software up and running so that the UPS will send the BLISS phone an email if anything happens (power loss, power surge, etc). We also started time machine backups of the MM1.

WEATHER INFO: Today was cooler and breezy. Cloudy early in the day, but it broke up to cumulus clouds by afternoon. Short showers happened around 7:00 and the evening saw low stratus and nearby convective towers.  Showers are possible overnight. Tomorrow will see convection with small chance of severe storms. Rain all day with gusty winds. Some storms and showers are possible Thursday also. The weather should be clearing 13 May – 18 May; this could be a good opportunity for supersondes.

PREVIOUS DAY OPS: The CU team flew the tethersonde at the George site. Profiles from 10:30-1:30 LT. Two special sondes released there by the ND team at 6pm and 12:30am LT.

SITE PHOTOS: None today.

NEXT DAY OPS: Tonight the tethered balloon flight at George site by CU group was called off due to shower and gusty winds.
