May 12 – Daily Update

INSTRUMENT STATUS: All the instruments are working!

WEATHER INFO: Today was again rainy, but the clouds are starting to break up. Additional showers can happen tomorrow but should be few and light. A high pressure center is approaching Portugal, and the forecast still calls for clear weather and a warming trend beginning on Sunday 14 May. The winds will be veering from westerly to easterly early in the clearing period. We plan to start looking at more details to select at least one night next week for a supersonde IOP.

PREVIOUS DAY OPS: Rain kept most people from doing much. Towers are still going up. There were some issues with tower power and surrounding network last night and today due to storms and lightning. Steve Oncley has gone above and beyond to get them online quickly. Thanks Steve!
Another interesting note: I helped with the early morning balloon today, and it flew a very strange route. It went nearly horizontal to the ground, through some trees then up and over the ridge near the gap before we lost it because it was too low over the ridge. Definitely a parcel sounding. Very odd.

SITE PHOTOS: None today. Rain!

NEXT DAY OPS: None tonight, rain!
