Hello! I am Elaine Godfrey, née Savageau, and originally hail from a small suburb in southwest Ohio. I am currently a doctoral student in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma.
My husband is Christopher Godfrey, who also graduated from OU with a PhD in Meteorology. He currently teaches at the University of North Carolina Asheville. We have been happily married since 2002. Chris and I are active members in Blue Ridge Christian Church, and have many close friends there.
While in graduate school, my coursework and research keeps me quite busy. You can look at some of my M.S. and Ph.D. research presentations linked off of the research page. My doctoral project is with CASA, Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere, a 10-year Engineering Research Center (ERC) sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Some of my academic activities and interests include the CASA Student Leadership Council (SLC), the Association of Women Geoscientists, the Earth Science Women's Network, and I am a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). I have also been privileged to be a part of several interesting workshops and colloquii recently, including the Weather And Society-Integrated Studies (WAS-IS) workshop in Norman, OK, the Second Workshop on Ensemble-based Data Assimilation in Austin, TX, the AMS Summer Policy Colloquium in Washington D.C, and the Preparing for an Academic Career in the Geosciences workshop at Stanford University in California.
Outside of school/research work, I like to spend time with my best friend, Chris. We purchased a tandem Cannondale bicycle around Labor Day of 2005 and enjoyed riding with the Bicycle League of Norman when we lived in Oklahoma. I also particularly enjoy doing arts and crafts projects, many of which involve rubber stamping and other paper crafts (see my links), but I enjoy all sorts of new challenging techniques and projects such as polymer clay and crochet. On the side, I still enjoy playing classical piano, and am often involved in the worship team at BRCC. Other hobbies and interests of mine include racquetball, tennis, walking, reading, photography, scrapbooking, camping, hiking, traveling, and staying informed about current events. Life is so short, and there are so many enjoyable things to do!
Well, that's about it. If you'd like to know more about me through direct contact, or if you have an interesting thought or question, please contact me at the email address below. Otherwise, may God bless you and I hope you have a great day!
